Brutto Male
I was led to Campania 6 months ago by a silent massacre which began 20 years ago of who’s consequences are now being waged against it’s people, with the number of deaths increasing by the day. A combination of local studies as well as a government backed study by the World Health Organization in 2007 found that cancer rates have risen 21 percent in recent years within known toxic waste dumping areas in Campania. Beginning in the late 1980’s the Camorra mafia has waged both a violent and economic war against the people of Campania, Italy, with the complicity of local politicians. This war has been motivated by an insatiable need for the creation of a lucrative and illegal industry, resulting in the forceful displacement of the people from their lands as well as stripping them of their rights. Today, the victims of this war live in what is known to be the most highly environmentally intoxicated region of Italy. The people of Campania continue to fight against the violent threats of the Camorra, and strive to one day renounce their daily struggles and live in peace.
